Every ingredient enters the blender whole. That way I can choose the highest quality of organic ingredients that I can find. The blueberries I’m using right now were frozen the day they’re picked, when I brought them home in coolers from a quality farm in the Fraser Valley.
Nutritionally, I feel this smoothie hits the mark because ALL the processing happens right before I drink it up, giving me the freshest, highest nutrient values possible.
And this recipe is packed with high quality fat, protein, fiber and just plain yumminess …
Jan’s Breakfast Smoothie (updated)
- 1 cup blueberries
- 2 cups spinach and/or kale
- 2 tbsp hemp hearts
- 1 tbsp Chia seeds
- 1 tbsp flax seeds
- 2/3 c water
Feel free to add in any supplements you may be taking. I add in fish oil, extra powdered magnesium and liquid vitamin D … and the flavour is still fantastic.
Blend until smooth and enjoy!
Variations:
- other fruits, especially berries can be substituted
- add 1/2 banana for a really sweet treat
- or add juice from ½ lemon for a more tart treat (it’s yummy – really!)
